I first heard of Phil Cooke through reading his blog. I always enjoy reading about faith and culture, how our world is changing, and how our faith relates to it. So, when this book became available to blog about in exchange for a free copy, I chose it.
Cooke, a social media guru, television producer, and cultural commentator writes about the impact of technology and how it’s changed our lives. Did you know that 65% of N. Americans spend more time with their computer than their spouse? Some psychologists are pushing to have ‘internet addiction’ broadly classified as a clinical disorder? The fastest growing segment on Facebook is 55-65 year olds? 74% of consumers trust peer recommendations over advertisements?
Life today is all about change and how we adapt to it. It’s not always easy. Phil Cooke takes the reader through 25 ‘jolts’ – helping you navigate through this ‘culture of disruption’ in every area of your life. Change is inevitable.. are you ready and prepared for it or are you in survival mode?
The book is divided into 5 sections: Jolt Your Direction, Jolt What Matters, Jolt Your Potential, Jolt Your Heart, and Jolt Your Future.
The secret to making change work for us is to understand it and take control of it and not just move along on its wave. Cooke acknowledges that change is hard, but we have to acknowledge that we are never going back to the way it was. His focus throughout the book is on things that matter and how to achieve ‘long-lasting revolutionary transformation in every area of your life’.
I think I initially expected a little more info on technology, its effects, and how to benefit from it. Instead, this book focused more on practical wisdom and the values that are needed to fearlessly embrace and navigate an ever-changing world. Well organized, including great personal examples, and a great book to ponder. Recommended!
I received this book free from Thomas Nelson (Booksneeze) in exchange for an honest review.
