Wrapped protectively in advertising flyers from an unfamiliar newspaper (which was rather fun to scan!) , I picked up the book and leafed through it. A little welcome notecard was enclosed, which I read and tucked back inside the book. I was eager to begin the journey.
I am part of a ‘book pilgrimage’ initiated by Melissa, a blogger in the States, whose site I frequent and quite enjoy.

I’m the first on the list to read ‘All the Way to Heaven’ by Elizabeth Sherrill, and leave little comments, dog ears, highlights, or whatever I choose, as I glean from her writings. Then, when completed, I’ll be sending the book off on its way to the next reader. Isn’t that a great idea? The downside is, I don’t get to read all the other handwritten comments, because I’m the second to read the book. I’m looking forward to reading some of the comments through Melissa’s blog, once the book is back in her hands once again.
When I read about this idea, I thought it was a great way to be connected with other women that I don’t know personally, but who share a common faith and enjoyment of reading and learning. But, as I begin this book, it’s evident that I am REALLY going to enjoy it, too. I am less than one quarter way through, but already I am captivated. I love her writing style, stories, and the nuggets of truth she has learned on her life’s journey and somehow I can relate to her personality in some ways, being more of a quiet type and having always loved the written word. So, it’s going to be hard NOT to read this when I should be attending to other things!
You may know the author Elizabeth Sherrill as the co author of The Hiding Place, The Cross and the The Switchblade, and God’s Smuggler. Coincidentally, those books are a fixture on my bookshelf and are all dear to my heart, having read them as a young teenager and been significantly affected by all of them. I’ve reread them through our homeschooling years, as well.
This pilgrim is looking forward to reading and reflecting.

Let me know what you think of "All the way to Heaven" please.
ReplyDeleteI've read a couple books on Heaven recently, and they've been very enjoyable, though quite different, and in a couple ways - opposed.
It's been good reading.

Cool. I love it when I buy used textbooks from TRU that other students have written inside. It's half the fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nifty idea!
