The Progressive Lens is a bit unfocused lately. Nothing new. But, I’ll throw you all a few morsels, just because you’ve taken the time to read this.
It snowed yesterday. Big, fluffy flakes that looked totally out of place. It’s Spring, isn’t it? I’m feeling the itch to get some annuals and start beautifying our front yard. But I’m afraid the snow hasn’t made its last appearance! And here I sit wrapped in my fleece blanket. Today is more hopeful, though—the sun has peeked out a few times. And Easter weekend is promising.
Speaking of Easter weekend, this weekend Dave and I are off to visit his mom at her timeshare a few hours away. We do this each year in April. When the kids were little, we packed bikes, trikes, and rollerblades in order to keep the kids active and busy. Although I think their most fun moments were spent watching TV in the extra bedroom till their eyes crossed (we didn’t have TV stations at home, just videos). Oh, and bouncing around on the king size bed, using it as a trampoline and WWF wrestling ring, all without Grandma and Grandpa knowing.
Last year at this time, my m-i-l was awaiting a hip replacement, so we didn’t do much more than sit and visit. This year she is enjoying her remobilized life with a new hip and hopefully we’ll be able to go for a few walks along the boardwalk.
This is the first year our little visit has landed on Easter weekend that I remember, which feels a little strange. I am going to miss not attending Easter services, unless we leave a little later than planned on Friday. Sunday we’ll be heading out to the airport. And Easter dinner.. haven’t decided when that will be or what it will look like. Probably Monday. More times than not my sis and her family would come up at Easter and we’d have a grand time all weekend long. Will miss that this time.
It’s tick season here in the BC interior. It usually begins in April and ends.. ?? I thought it ended in May or June, but maybe it carries on all summer? Never really thought that one out. Anyway, the other day, guess what fell off of my clothes? Yep, a tick! And it had been 2 days since I’d been out for a walk, other than to my car. So, where did that little creature come from? Anyway, he’s toast now, but I keep feeling itchy, scratching my scalp, wondering if there are more of those horrid bugs lurking around. I do loathe ticks.
Renovations are nearing completion on the ol’ fireplace. Lookin’ good, but it hasn’t been without its trials. As awesome as my hubby is at d-i-y work, he has had frustrations with this project. He’s a trooper though, and once we get the new frame/glass doors inserted, it will look pretty swell!
But it seems hub’s allegiances have transferred to outdoor projects once again. We decided to rebuild the pump house by the pool. Well, he’s the builder and I’m the somewhat able (but often nonexistent) assistant. Now the little building looks like an outhouse, though. Hopefully no visiting children this summer will use it as such! After the pump house, the remaining leg of chain link fence around the pool will be completed. It’ll look great!
The longer I live here the more I realize that renovations will NEVER end. Kind of like our spiritual lives, I guess. Always more to work on. But, boy, is it gonna be something when we get to MOVE to our new home! ;)
