Inspiration has an expiry date!

When I get an idea for a blog, I often file it in my drafts section of Windows Live Writer, hoping to actually write the piece when I can focus on it. But guess what happens more times than not? I look at the post title later and think… what was I going to say about that?
The inspiration for that post has disappeared.  And my motivation dies with it.
I’m sure you’ve had times when you are  inspired to do something--to write in your journal regularly, clean a bathroom, bake a special dessert for your spouse, lose weight, write a letter to a politician, organize your recipe files, clean the car, change the filter on the vacuum cleaner, participate in a  once-a-month cooking plan, blog, fill out that form , etc. But then time marches on, distractions entice you away,  and the good intentions remain only that.
How do you rekindle motivation? Is it just mind over matter?Plain hard work? Does inspiration return when you ‘just do it’?
I believe that we can accomplish much just by putting one foot in front of the other and honoring our commitment to a project.
Don’t know if it’s so easy in the writing/blogging world, though. I definitely have my inspired and uninspired moments with that.

  1. When it comes to writing I simply must be inspired otherwise it's just not going to happen. Most other things, it's just mind over matter and making myself get it done.

  2. That used to drive me crazy, especially when it came to writing. Just in the last year, or year and a half, I've started carrying pens and paper around with me wherever I go (especailly to work) and then if inspiration strikes, I take five, ten, fifiteen minutes, whatever I need to get it out. Works great for me.
