Oh, ‘Puter, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…
I have to give Facebook credit where credit is due. I caught up with an old friend I haven’t seen in probably almost 15 years. She was my bridesmaid many moons ago, as well. But Facebook is not what my post is about today.
My life is better because of the internet… the CHAT capability, to be exact. For me, that’s gmail chatting, but that’s just my preference. My girlfriend and I have decided to meet once a week in gmail and do a book study together. Tonight was our first ‘meeting’, and it went very well. We both agreed it’s better than a phone call. Why is that? Because when you ‘chat’, you have time to think about what you’re writing and there really is no awkward silence to deal with. I am not a phone person. I know some people LOVE to talk on the phone, but I’m not one of them. Maybe it there was no other option, it would be great, but that was then, this is now. Technology has given us so many options. Ask any young person… who defaults to the telephone anymore? And why is that?
Anyway, gotta love the ‘puter. That is, if you use it for good and not for evil!
I wonder what life would be like without the "puter". Do I really know how to study anything without the help of Google? If I did, would it be as effective? Is there simply too much information thrown in our faces due to advances in technology, that we simply don't retain anything well anymore because there's just too much out there? I wonder sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a phone person either. I much prefer the written word.
