Please, oh please
let me sit here awhile and just be calm,
be okay, be myself not needing
so many excuses.
Is it really acceptable in your sight
that I haven’t loved very well, and that
I get tired so easily?
It will be really nice if, first of all,
we don’t make any lists.
I just love that. No I didn’t write it, but the author, Venita Hampton Wright, seems to be able to put words to feelings, even (or especially) those we are unaware of.
This excerpt is from her book Days of Deepening Friendship, ‘for the woman who wants authentic life with God’. I’m going through this book, ever so slowly. It is about learning to be free to be who we are as women and to express to God, without fear, who we are. We bring all sorts of experiences and preconceived ideas to our relationships with others, and of course, with God. How do you see God? How do you think He sees you? Are you friends with God? Do you know this because you’ve been told or you’ve read it or do you really KNOW this?
This book is helping me realize to a greater degree that we see God through the lens of our past experiences, beginning with our early years. That affects how we see Him now, especially I think, as our Father. There are great questions to ponder and activities to engage in. Wright encourages the use of all of our senses during the learning process. Journaling is highly recommended.
I am loving this book, although I’ve just begun it. It’s like a little personal spiritual retreat of sorts, that I can experience right here and right now.
