The Fine Art of Insincerity

The Fine Art of Insincerity

I’ve just finished a great book. How do I know I really liked the book? It only took me about 3 days to read it, and when I wasn’t reading it, I was looking forward to the moment when I could pick it up again and lose myself in it.

Contemporary fiction is my favourite genre, I have to say. I love to get immersed in someone else’s world and try to figure out how everything is going to come together in the end.

Angela Hunt’s The Fine Art of Insincerity is about three grown up sisters who meet at a beach house for a weekend to pack up  up their deceased grandmother’s home in preparation for the new owners to take over.  The oldest sister, Ginger, just can’t seem to stop mothering and dispensing advice. She seems to have it all together. Pennyroyal is always on the look out for a better man than the one she has. And  Rosemary just can’t shake the sadness she feels over choices she’s made in her life. All are coping with tragedy in their life and wonder if they are destined to search for love just like their seven-times-wed grandmother.

The women end up digging through more than just their grandma’s belongings in the process . They learn to begin to really listen to and love each other, and learn some great life and love lessons from their grandmother.

If you have sisters or close girlfriends, you won’t want to miss this story.

This book is about honesty and vulnerability. Perceptions vs reality.  I love how Hunt gets inside the heads of these women. The conversations and feelings are so realistic.  I could imagine having them with my own sisters. Oh, the subject matter would be different, but some of the same thoughts and feelings would be there.

It was difficult for these sisters to get really real with each other.  Who wants to get to the painful nitty gritty when it’s so much easier to avoid it? And is anyone really listening?

If you are looking for a book that not only entertains you, but touches your heart and reminds you of what’s important in life, you won’t be disappointed. It would be a great summer read and I’m being sincere when I say that.

I gratefully received this book free from Glass Road PR in exchange for an honest review.
