Being so near the end of the year, I decided it was time to purchase some more books for the church library. I do enjoy that part of this job…although it is a bit daunting at times, trying to decide what the voracious readers in my church want to read. I do take suggestions regularly, so that helps.
The parcel arrived the other day. A good mix of fiction and nonfiction that will hopefully bring hours of reading pleasure.
Over the years I’ve gravitated towards nonfiction, although I am beginning to enjoy fiction more and more. I’ve got a hodgepodge on my night table right now. Too many, really.
Try as might, I don’t enjoy listening to audio books all that much. The printed word just suits me better for the most part. I find that my mind wanders too easily when I’m listening to a book. Unless I really make a point of focusing.
Just finished reading Edith Wharton’s The House of Mirth. Quite enjoyed it, as serious as it was. Last night I watched the movie based on the book, and was not disappointed. The acting was superb for the most part. Except for Dan Akroyd..I just couldn’t get past him being a comedic actor. I kept expecting him to crack a joke. And this was NOT a humorous movie by any stretch. The costumes were lovely. Oh, the hats women wore back then!
Although I’m not a huge fan of Karen Kingsbury type books, I have to say that Unlocked (a book I am reading to review for Zondervan) is quite intriguing because it’s about a teenage boy with autism. It’s a quick read, and once I’m done, I’ll be donating it to the church library.
What are you enjoying reading right now?
I'll have to check out the new selection in the church library.
ReplyDeleteRight now I'm not reading anything. But Cam has expressed an interest in having me read out loud to her like I used to when she was little, so I guess I'll be reading something soon.

ReplyDeleteGo get that template! There's a blue version too.

You go girl! :) I love the brown version so much, hope it satisfies me enough to leave it alone! Hope they load well for you. I think you have to tweak the date settings to get the side date tabs to work, but the readme files probably explain that.
I have too many on the go right now - although I'm excited to see the new selection.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could sit through an audiobook, but I occasionally get them to put on my ipod to help pass the time while I'm packing garbage and slinging my mop.
