In two days the first of my children will be married. A girlfriend sent me an email entitled Endings and Beginnings, and she’s right. Right now, I am feeling very much that there are a lot of endings.
My son walked up the stairs this morning and I looked at him and said, “Mike, that’s probably the last time you’ll ever sleep in this house.” He chuckled. Well, but he certainly won’t be sleeping in his teeny tiny room with the built in bed anymore, when he does come to visit if he moves to a new city!
I looked over at the kitchen table with some of Mike’s best friends gathered around it for breakfast. From now on they will be sitting around his table, not mine, when they come to visit.
He won’t be doing his laundry here anymore.
I won’t hear the tell tale click of his crazy anklebone when he comes up the stairs in the morning.
I won’t hear his cheerful “Good morning, Mom!”
I won’t watch him cuddling Buddy the Cat as he eats his bowl of cereal in the morning.
I won’t hear him set up the popcorn maker and pop a batch, which has been his (almost) nightly ritual! (When his popcorn maker leaves the premises, I’ll REALLY know he’s gone for good!)
I’ll miss his little comments at supper. “Mmm..mmmm..mmmmm”..just like when he was a little guy.
I’ll just miss having him around. Even though I know it’s all good. Very good.
wahhh...you made me cry! Even good things are bittersweet.
ReplyDeleteamazing isn't it...each step they take from the moment they are born leads them away from us...but never really that far. Each new adventure changes our relationships with them and each time we adjust to the "new" but it is so hard.
ReplyDeleteI hope your weekend is amazing!
Bless your heart, you're a good mama. The weekend will be full. :)
ReplyDeleteCherished endings ... wonderful beginnings! Enjoy every moment this weekend. Sending you our love.
ReplyDeleteawwwwwwww
ReplyDeleteBut I bet it won't be long before he's bringing grandbabies with him when he comes to sleep over!
This made me cry. I had only been thinking about the happy stuff about his marrying such a nice girl and having what I heard really was an AWESOME wedding. But as a mom, there is loss and gain when it comes to one of your kids getting married.
ReplyDeleteOne thing is obvious from what you have written and that is how much you love your son. He is very lucky to have experienced that and it will give him a solid foundation for being out there on his own.
Hey, I just found your blog and enjoyed reading a bunch of posts. =) Wow. Mike's married. But then so am I and I have a little girl. =) Life moves on so fast...=)
ReplyDeleteLove,
Breanne
