PMC Update

Considering I usually write about once a month in my ‘memoirs’, I did alright this past month in my Personal Monthly Challenge, with at least 12 entries. It’s unfortunate that I planned ‘daily’ memoir writing. It was far from that. But, as long as I keep this up on a regular basis, I will be making some headway.  I’m beginning to realize that it’s not so  much  about daily writing, but rather, REGULAR writing.  Does that sound like I’m wimping out? The bottom line is, I’ve done more memoir writing in the last month than I have in a very long time. I am planning to continue writing at least 2-3x per week.

Last night I was laying in bed and thinking of all the writing I wanted to do, but when I got up this morning, those ideas had evaporated like morning mist hanging over the water! Oh well, I’ll push myself and see what comes up. I am still going to order a memoir writing book—just haven’t done it yet.

When I’m away from home, it messes with my plans and routines. Even though I have my laptop with me, I still feel removed from the normal everyday. Which isn’t a bad thing. Makes me appreciate the familiarity and routines of home, though.

As for my new monthly challenge, that, too has been affected by my being away from home. It’s a few days into August and I have finally made up my mind about what to do.

One Simple Act: Discovering the Power of Generosity

I’ve been reading a book by Debbie Macomber called One Simple Act- Discovering the Power of Generosity. Macomber is mostly a fiction writer, author of Summer on Blossom Street and others. I’ve never actually read any of her books, but I was attracted to this nonfiction one the last time I browsed the library shelves. Her book is chalk full of uplifting stories of those who have been intentionally generous in a variety of ways – most very simple – and how this has changed them and those around them. She encourages readers to write down their intentions to keep committed and focused. This month my goal is to focus on seeing the positive in people. It sounds a lot like another PMC of a few months back, but this will be more specific .

So, for the next few weeks, I will regularly (several times per week) :

1)  write down the good I see in those around me – neighbours, family, friends, acquaintances

2) write down Bible verses that encourage me in this

And if I fail,  oh well. I’ll just pick myself up, and start over.

“Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail.”  Ralph Waldo Emerson

  1. Excellent choice! I might add a page like this in my prayer journal! It would be a wonderful thing to look back to, now and then. :)

  3. That's 11 more entries than you would have written if you hadn't made it your PMC! Even though you missed your goal, that is really excellent. The new one sounds like a great idea.
