So, Dave brought home a ‘thank you’ gift from his boss’s wife, whom he helped with her computer problems the other day. This gift was the most yummy, decadent, flavorful plate of brownies I have ever had the pleasure of tasting! There was a secret to them and I
wanted NEEDED to know it. So, he asked her the next day and today I got a lovely note from her telling me that the secret to these soft, moist, chewy brownies was CARAMILK BARS – 3-4 of them for an 8x8 pan of brownies, distributed between the 2 layers of brownie batter and then baked as per the recipe.
I remembered I had a ‘brownies in a jar’ mixture sitting on my kitchen shelf. Time to try out this recipe. I sent one of my beloved to the corner store for a couple of chocolate bars (only 2, though) and quickly prepared the batter. I layered the Caramilk pieces.
Now the brownies are baking in my oven.
I’ve been trying to eat healthy lately (within reason) and this also means avoiding after-dinner snacking.
And then I go and do this.
WHAT HAVE I DONE?!!
P.S. I’ll let you know how they turn out.
Mmmm...they sound delicious!
ReplyDeleteCaramilk is a name I'm unfamiliar with, but thinking a good old Hershey bar would work. :)
ReplyDeleteI could be wrong but I don't think they sell caramilk bars in the U.S.
ReplyDeleteBut those brownies sound really good!
Ohhhhhh no. Oh no. Ohhhhhh. No.
ReplyDeleteSo. Do you break them into pieces first, or just lay them in there whole?
Oh goodness me. I'm doomed.
Cheater! Double fasting for you. Now I am going to win the challenge =D
ReplyDeleteDanica, if you want true decadence, I'm sure you just lay them in there whole.. I, however, with my disciplined ways, used only 2 bars and broke them into little pieces and spread them evenly over the batter. Doesn't give the full effect, so I recommend you go for it and use 4 bars! You will be doomed..but ever so satisfied.
ReplyDeleteMelissa, any bar would work, but Caramilk bars have gooey caramel in the middle... oh. my. word.
Sonya and Vivian.. they ARE good!
Anne...fasting is overrated...did I just say that?
Mmmm, they sound quite decadent!
ReplyDeleteThough we try to limit how much sweet stuff we have, I've been finding since I have more time on my hands there's been quite a bit of baking happening here lately!
Here in the US, CADBURY sells a caramel-filled chocolate bar that breaks into individual pieces that seems would be an excellent substitute for the CARAMILK bars; if not, the bar is fantastic by itself! Smiles~M. Sue
