Dream Job

Does anyone really have a job they’d rather work at than have a holiday from? I’m not saying there aren’t aspects of one’s career/job that are fulfilling and exciting, but really, what job has it all?
For many years, I was a homeschooling mom, and THAT was very challenging and rewarding and fulfilling  (and exhausting, I might add). But even mothers want to run away sometimes, don’t they?
Sometimes I wonder what my dream job would be now. I know it’s not the one I have, although I can’t complain too much about it. I wonder if I’ll ever be fulfilled here on earth? Maybe I’ll always have this longing for something better ‘out there somewhere’.
What is that something out there that I could be paid for that would give me more fulfillment and satisfaction? For which I could declare, “THIS is what I was born for”. And how am I going to find it? And do I even want to expend the energy and time to do that? Am I missing something because I DON’T LOOOOOOOOVE this work I do?
Maybe being fulfilled is not about having  the perfect career. Actually, I’m sure it’s not. Life is about so much more than that. That’s what I’d tell you if you asked me these questions.
But, after a long hard day at the ‘puter, I’m just wondering….

  1. I enjoy a lot of the thongs I do and get a great deal of satisfaction and fulfillment from them - but none of those things are my job. But maybe if they were my job and I had to do them day in and day out, I wouldn't love them as much.
But what do I know? I'm still trying to figure out what job I 'should' do. Wait. I'm still trying to finish university!!!

  2. I have similar thoughts Aneta! One last career ... one more kick at the can to do something completely different, fun and of course financially rewarding. I think this is a good sign. Entertaining new possibilities keeps the future looking interesting. It's during these moments that I wonder what heaven will be like. The promise of complete fulfillment! Something to look forward to, don't you think?! :)

  3. I don't know. I do know that I don't believe that a person can ever find true fulfillment just by their career alone but at the same time, I do think that people do better at their jobs and therefore feel better about their jobs when they are passionate about what they are doing. Unfortunately for me, the things I am passionate about are the things that there is no money in like helping orphans, children, women in distress. Sigh... Any of those "helping" kind of jobs never pay much!

  4. Heather, you're right. We'll never 'have it all' here.

So true, Sharla. But they are the jobs that count in the long run, don't they? It's really not about the money, although our culture says different.

  5. Oh, and Danica, you're right..maybe if the thing you love becomes your 'have to' job, you might fall out of love with it.
