Random thoughts for a Sunday afternoon

My neighbor mowed his lawn yesterday, which means we should probably mow ours sometime soon. I am one of those who enjoys mowing the lawn (especially the ride ‘em!). But that doesn’t mean I want to do it all the time.

Speaking of the yard, I’ve got some landscaping plans for our front yard. I’ve grown to loathe the brick ‘patio’ in front of the house, so I’m going to rip the bricks out this Spring and replace them with red shale rocks. I may extend the area into the lawn, too. I’ll add some flower planters and maybe a shrub as well. Those are my plans..but we’ll see if it happens. Time seems to get away on me once the warm weather hits.

We had a great time with Matt, Deanne, and family this weekend --  eating, visiting, and going for a couple of hikes/walks yesterday over on the north side of Kamloops, down Tranquille Rd. Unfortunately, my camera battery was completely dead, so no pictures.

When the kids were growing up, my l’il sis and her family would come up almost every Easter weekend and we’d celebrate together. This, of course, included the traditional Easter Egg Hunt in the backyard.  Well, this year, they came a week later. We decided to hide some  eggs, anyway,  for all  the kids (age 13+), for old times’ sake.  I think they enjoyed it almost as much as they did when we still wiped their snotty noses! Of course, they have now acquired a taste for quality chocolate, so no waxy eggs would suffice. The nice thing about holding the egg hunt  a week late is that all the chocolate we bought was at least 50% off.  Sweet.

Deanne  brought along her unfinished knitted sock project (the one I encouraged her to begin probably a year ago). She confessed sock knitting is not her thing-- baby blankets are (she used to knit a lot of baby sweaters, etc when my kids were little). So, I have adopted her sock knitting WIP  and am going to finish them and send them to her when they are all done. I was just itching to start another pair, anyway. I had just completed some simple dishcloths and a face cloth last week. Apr 10 001

Oh, and I’m working on a pair of  socks my brother had asked me for.  Ask and you shall receive, dear bro.  No promises for a finish date, though. At least I know he’d appreciate them.  I find knitting socks is fun, but a good many hours are put into them, so remember that, if someone gives you a pair of hand knit socks, they’ve spent a lot of time on them. And they’ve probably thought about  or prayed for you, too. That’s what happens to me when I knit something for someone—my thoughts turn to them when I knit.

All the guys are out at ball hockey tonight for the exhibition game. That’s my 3 ball hockey crazy sons and my husband, who is hoping to play on the same team as his boys.  Most of the players are in their 20’s, so I’ll be interested to hear how Dave does up against the whippersnappers. Isn’t he a brave and determined soul?

The house will be quiet for the next couple of hours. Nice.

  2. I always have all kinds of plans for my yard every year and somehow I usually don't get around to working on them. Maybe this year. :)
