So, what book (besides the Bible) have you read several times, and know that you will probably read it again?
Although I do own quite a few books, I really haven’t read a lot of them more than once. But there are a few that beg to be enjoyed over and over.

My favorite reread of all time is Joy In the Morning by Betty Smith (who also wrote A Tree Grows In Brooklyn) , a novel set in the American Midwest in the 1920’s , about a young newly married couple and the struggles they overcome as they begin their life together. Great characters, excellent writing. I had originally borrowed it from the library, but then came across it at a yard sale and quickly snapped it up for about 25c. Since then I have reread it several times, and will do so again. It is that good.
How about you? What’s your favorite reread?
Oh, Aneta, we're going to the library today, and I'll definitely try to pick up this one.
ReplyDeleteA favorite? 'I Capture the Castle' by Dodie Smith. Good stuff! :)
So many books...I don't know if I could pick just 1. I have a few I read over and over.
ReplyDeleteChronicles of Narnia
ReplyDeleteC. S. Lewis's Space Trilogy
A Severe Mercy by Sheldon Van Aukin
Messenger of Magnolia Street by River Jordan
Tess of D'urbevilles
Jane Eyre
Wuthering Heights
Little Women
A Little Princess
The Passion of Mary Margaret (I haven't reread it yet, but I know I will)
The Hiding Place
And a lot more. I'm surprised at how long this list is!
Such a luxury, isn't it, to re-read a book? When there are so many new ones on the list. "The Ice Child" by Elizabeth McGregor is one I turn to every year or so. Like you, I kept taking it out of the library, until I found it at a discount store. Canadian historical romance is the genre, I guess. Arctic exploration.
ReplyDeleteI've re-read most of the books that I own, usually multiple times. Judging by the shape it's in, I'd have to say that I've re-read Anne Of Green Gables the most.
ReplyDeleteI've read Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels about four times. It's one of my favorites. I will read it again. And Mr. Lewis is right, I find something new every time I do.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I've read several books over a second time, but the only other one that is striking my memory (must be my newfound old age) is 'On Writing' by Stephen King. Only I listened to the audio book. Twice. A very good book on the craft of writing.
I have several as well that I love to re-read. The Prisoner of Zenda, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Anne books I have read multiple times as well as Little House books. And of course, as you know, my Dick Francis books I have read through twice.
ReplyDeleteThese were great comments and I have made a list of new ones I want to read now based on your fans reading.
I'm amazed at how many people reread books. I'm with Maureen -- there are so many books out there to be enjoyed, it's hard to reread -- unless they MUST be savored over and over. ;)
