Social Media overload?

Just today I heard on CBC radio news that membership on Facebook, MySpace, and even Twitter has dropped in the last month or so. Do you think people are getting tired of social media? Is it just becoming too much? Too addictive? Too much face time with the computer?
And guess what? Now there’s another option for those of us on Gmail. It’s called Buzz. Do we really need another social media outlet?
Besides blogs, I think Twitter is the most useful. I don’t use it much, but I do follow favorite authors, musicians, authors/speakers, culture commentators, and just generally my favorite bloggers. I find a lot of great articles this way, and it’s not overwhelming… only 140 characters max per post. Short and sweet. I still prefer blogs, though.
If you could only use ONE online social connection (besides plain email), which would it be?

  1. Oh, that's not a fair question. I could never choose between my blog and Facebook.

  2. I'd definitely say blogging..partly because the personality of the person comes through more clearly (well, except if they're into pretending they're someone else, and that does happen!). The rest are just trimmings.

  3. I've seriously thought about giving up facebook lately...it just has gotten old, I guess.
I don't think I could do without blogging though.
I guess FB is kind of twitter/blogging combined though.

  4. I think FB, I could still "blog" on there in my notes. But I would miss the templates. LOL
