I’ve recently made an interesting discovery. Wearing an apron makes a me more productive! Not only does it keep splatters and spills from staining my clothes, but it gets me in the meal prep mode. Suddenly my focus turns to food, and I am more serious about what I’m doing. Instead of wishing I was doing other things, I seem less distracted and my attention is on kitchen activities. It’s like the apron has transformed me into Cook with a capital C. All other demands and interests fade temporarily into the background as I prepare the meal for my family. What is it about an apron that would do that?

I think the apron somehow subconsciously tells my brain to focus on cooking and nothing else. It’s like a uniform. It’s who I am at that moment in time. When I’m done, the apron comes off and I am free to think other exciting, less food-related thoughts.
It reminds me of the saying about putting 99% effort into something being really tough, but 100% effort makes it a cinch.
And this verse from Ecclesiastes:
Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might…
You're weird. I also have all those pics on my camera if you still want them.
ReplyDeleteRight before you wrote it's a uniform, I was thinking, it's a uniform. Gets you in a work frame of mind.
ReplyDeleteI love my aprons! Elizabeth made me my favorite one for my birthday one year. The others are Pamered Cheffers. I haven't worn them much since I moved to my new house though. I think my new kitchen gets me in the mood to cook all by itself.
When I wear an apron I feel all professional and sort of like I might just be hosting my own personal cooking show in my kitchen. I like it. :)
ReplyDeleteI like aprons too, but I forget to put them on most of the time. When I do wear one, I always think - I need to do this every day. Funny how we are that way - adds something to the cooking experience of cooking.
