Are You Happy, Kamloops?!!!

It seemed that all of Kamloops was happy Wednesday night. The Olympic Torch celebration took place at Hillside Stadium, and it was FANTASTIC! The people, the music, the program, the atmosphere. I’ve heard that we had the biggest turnout of supporters so far (per capita) , for Olympic celebrations!
We had hummed and hawed about going. I’m definitely not a big-crowd person, but I would have been somewhat disappointed to have watched the festivities on TV, so when dh called and said “Wanna go?” ,  I said “Yes”. I thought he was working that night, but not so.
Jan 10 127Jan 10 134I and my two YA charges headed out to Valleyview to watch the torch relay (and to make it more special, we stopped at Starbucks first).
Jan 10 131We  then met up with Dave and headed to Wendy’s in support of Dreamlift Day--- what a zoo!!!  Excitement was in the air.

Then  Dave and I headed up the hill to TRU and enjoyed a couple of hours out in the middle of the football/soccer field with thousands of others, bobbing up and down like gophers, craning our necks, waving flags, and cheering, while enjoying entertainment, speeches, and of course the arrival of Mark Recchi holding  the Olympic Torch  high.  It was cold out (standing in –3 for 2 hours  makes one chilly!)  but our hearts were warmed.
Jan 10 139I guess you had to be there to really get how great it was. I did take some pictures, but most of them were blurry. There’s even a video clip--- awesome entertainment!  I’ll attempt to put that up asap.  Jan 10 147
So, kudos to the organizing committee and all the volunteers in Kamloops who pulled off this huge event! The Olympic Spirit is alive and well in our fair city.

  3. Hey we were there too. We left early though because the girls were cold and tired and I had to go to work. Fun times. Although it was kind of like being in the middle of a big live Coke and RBC commercial.

Adora's teacher from last year (gr 1) was one of the torch bearers. They had their school assembly today, and adora got an award so she got a picture with her award and her old teacher in her full track-suit and her torch. So that's pretty cool.

  4. Danica - Yeah, there was that darn advertising going on, but without it, an event like this wouldn't happen, I guess.
Sorry I missed you.. don't know how that happened! ;)
    Congratulations to Adora!
