Slap Chop vs Food Chopper

This post is dedicated to my son who thinks the Slap Chop is a must have. But WAIT, dear son! I have seen it with my own eyes and unfortunately, it didn’t win my heart. Although its blade is mighty powerful (touching it gives me the shivers), it is really rather flimsy and not put together that well. It feels as if it’s going to fall apart when you work with it. The black cone on the top loosened frustratingly as I worked with it, and the plastic blade guard did not fit properly.

It’s true! I should know. My dad owns one! No, he didn’t buy it form Vince (and therefore he did not get the Gratey, which is unfortunate).   I’m not saying you SHOULDN’T buy the Slap Chop,  because it does chop. And my dad doesn’t buy junk as a rule… well, in this case I think he couldn’t help himself.  He was thinking of his dear wife and thought he’d bring home a gift for her.  One of those spontaneous acts of kindness.

Here’s Dad happily demonstrating his new purchase. (It’s the thought that counts, right?)

Contrast that with the sleek, solid and powerful *Pampered Chef chopper (easy to clean, as well). Now, that is something worth spending a bit of money on.  I should know. I own one. Need I say more?

*No, I’m not a PC consultant. I just know what I like.

  1. We have no end of fun joking about Vince and the Slap Chop in our house. In fact, I was just telling the girls about your post and they want to know if your dad has slapped all of his troubles away.

  3. Ah yes, but does your imitation slap chop "Pop open like a butterfly"?
    I think not!

  4. That is one of PC's best selling products - even after all these cheap versions have come on the market. And there's a reason. They're awesome.

  5. Ah, Mashed Taterz, I believe Slap Chop is the pale imitation.. and yes, the chopper pops open like a butterfly ready to soar.

  7. Will the PC chopper make American skinny again one slap at a time?

  8. Maybe I will have to update my Christmas wish list. I don't have any chopper!

  9. I sometimes forget to use my PC chopper but when I remember I love it! Especially great for chopping Skor bars and a must when chopping serrano peppers because if you cut those the regular way and then accidentally touch your eyes after...ouch! I am a fan but only of the Pampered Chef version and so easy to clean too!
