The coffee table has been strewn with books lately. Between Jill and me, well, it had no choice but to be. She is a girl after my own heart… a book lover like me. Never mind that we don’t read all the books we take out.. we LOVE to find a treasure! She loves foodie books (among other genres) and relays bits of interesting info to me now and then, and then cooks something spectacular at times (well, it’s usually spectacular, it’s just not all the TIME, unfortunately for me. I could give up the cooking job quite easily).
Books I’ve taken out lately include:
Courage and Craft – Writing Your Life Into Story by Barbara Abercrombie (I think this one is a keeper).
Jane Eyre (in Graphic Novel format – great!!) I have read the classic and watched the BBC movie of it many moons ago. Excellent story!
The Gospel According to Job by Mike Mason (the author of The Mystery of Marriage). This book is BIG, but divided into little short devotional type chapters, really getting into the meat of Job. ‘an honest look at pain and doubt’. I have this fascination with Job lately.
How to Write Poetry – I do collect a bit of poetry – and I thought this might help me to actually write some of my own, and perhaps teach a homeschool class sometime. Who knows?
When the Heart Waits by Sue Monk Kidd – an autobiography of a woman in midlife – ‘spiritual direction for life’s sacred questions’. Her writing is very inviting. She likens her spiritual journey to that of a butterfly in its various stages of development—how waiting is a huge part of growth. Food for thought. Again, another book I would like to own, so that I could reread it.
Living With Confidence in a Chaotic World by David Jeremiah (pastor/writer). Never have read any of his books before, but I’m reading this one to review for Thomas Nelson. I will give you my take on it once I complete it.
The War of Art by Steven Pressfield– oh, quite the little book there… explaining WHY we don’t get the things done that we really want to. Fascinating. ‘break through the blocks and win your inner creative battles’. Looking for a fight? Read this!
..and of course, listening to the Daily Audio Bible, which I am sorely behind on… I’ve still got time, though!!
So, what are YOU reading?
Right now I'm re-reading some of my favorite LM Montgomery books. Last week was Magic For Marigold and yesterday I finished Jane Of Lantern Hill.
ReplyDeleteHooray for L.M.M! I just got "A Tangled Web" at Second Glance for $2!!! So stoked.
ReplyDeleteActually I bought a bunch of books there today that I am so excited about! Couldn't help myself.
Right now I am "reading" a few different books...but its been a few months, can't seem to get into them. I told myself I wouldn't read anything new until I finish them...
that was me not my mom.
ReplyDeleteNice list of books! You and Maureen are an inspiration to me in the variety of books you read. I finished Daughter of China yesterday and I have a few started that I have to decide which to go with. Mansfield Park by Jane Austen, A Beginner's Guide to Crossing Cultures by Patty Lane, and A Biblical Home Education by Ruth Beechick
ReplyDeleteI was just wondering what I was going to post about. Thanks for this, I will copy you. :-)
