Out with the old, in with the new...

Just the other week, I called to make an appointment to see my doctor .  My wonderful female doctor, who I am so comfortable with. She was pretty well everything I could ask for in a doctor.

When the receptionist answered the phone, she said, " Dr. M's office. May I help you?". I wasn't sure I heard right, but it did not sound like the name of my beloved physician. I inquired if I had the right number, and yes, I did, but was told Dr. W. had recently retired (as did her co-physicians) and the new Dr. M had taken over the practice. Would I still want the appointment? I affirmed, and hung up, wondering who this new doctor might be.

Later, as I sat in the waiting room, I could hear voices behind closed doors. I wondered what this new doctor might be like? Male? Female? Older? Younger? Experienced? Wet behind the ears? Good bedside manner? Awkward?

The door opens.  I catch a glimpse of  HIM. Older, grandfatherly type... oh good!... but then...

Just as I feared...

He was followed by the doctor who was...

...Young...so very young...  could be my son's age...!

I enter the observation room (or whatever you call it) and observe him as he asks me questions. I try to act calm and comfortable. He seems nice enough. But what does he really know? I think he just got out of Med school. I'm sorry, but I don't know if I can go back to him for anything other than the ordinary generic problems that could afflict every human being, be they male or female--- problems such as  ingrown toe nails--that sort of thing.

Waaaaaaa!!! I want my old  doctor back!!

  1. We do get quite attached to our doctors, don't we? I hope you're able to find a fabulous new lady doctor.
