Sabatoging Goals

Speaking of challenges, did you know that sharing one’s goals with others actually makes the goals less likely to be accomplished?  Which is in direct contrast to what I’ve always been told. I thought that you’d feel some pressure to actually accomplish them. The accountability thing.  But apparently not.

Studies have shown this is often not the case.  And it’s because…

Why do you think that could be true?

  1. That is weird, but true I think. Do people expect you to fail? That would be kind of depressing!

  2. Probably because telling someone makes you feel validated and proud of yourself even though you haven't actually done anything. And if you already feel proud of yourself for not having done the work, why bother on follow through?
