Wedding Pies

The three of us were focused and determined to crank out as many pies as we could in as few hours as possible.  When all was said and done (and that includes putting out an oven fire!), we counted 22 pies. Some double crusted, some French crusted. All juicy. All assembled and baked.

With all the juicy drippings, my oven was a disaster! I’ve never seen it so in need of a good (self)cleaning! The one little fire in there was discovered in time.  Calm heads and baking soda dispersement prevailed. House, home, and the fruits of our labor were all preserved.

We had a bit of dough left once all the apples were used up, so we made a peach/strawberry pie and baked that up, as well. One cold, wet Autumn day when we are CRAVING peach pie, we will pull it out of the freezer, heat it up a bit, and dive into it. Anticipation!

  1. My goodness. I can't even imagine the amount of flour and other ingredients you used up! :)

    Love the photos, btw.

  2. Those pies look yummy! And the one that was in the oven during the fire will have an extra special "smoked" flavor added to it. :-)

  3. I love that you guys took a picture of the oven fire. Hilarious!

What a lot of work you all went to. I'm tired just thinking about it. But I'm sure it was well worth it.

  4. For the record, I would like it to be known that after I shouted, "Baking Soda!" I asked, "Where's the camera?!" and then took a picture.
This was while other 'Calm Heads' raced around removing pies from the oven with murderous mutterings and various sprinklings of the prescribed powder. The same calm heads told me not to take a picture. Which they have now posted on their blog.
    That is all.
