Yep, today is Christmas Adam – at our house, anyway. Years ago when the children were cute little toddlers and preschoolers running around, grinning from ear to ear, excited for all the Christmas festivities , they thought it would be sooo funny to name the day before Christmas Eve day-- Christmas Adam. Get it? ;)
So, I did what I vowed not to do on Christmas Adam. Ventured out to get those last minute presents, you know the ones to ensure that all your kids are gifted the same at Christmas. I may have a bit of an issue with ‘fairness’, because really, who’s counting? But, I feel better knowing that I got all the kids approximately the same DOLLAR VALUE of gifts. Kinda silly, but hey, it’s a long standing tradition, and a hard one to break.
It was a zoo out there. And I even got caught up in the frenzy. Take parking spaces, for example. You know how people fight for spots? Yes you do, because – be honest- you’ve probably participated in the Parking Stall Dance at least once in your life. One car backs out, 2 cars vie for the coveted space, ensuring no eye contact is made. One proceeds with grim determination, zipping into the stall, the other one gets miffed, throws hands up in frustration, and may even share a few choice words or hand signals with the prize winner. Not a pretty sight, especially on Christmas Adam. Not that I would ever be guilty of participating or encouraging others to participate in such unloving, immature behaviour as that!
I did however, strongly encourage my son to put on his turn signal to let the competition know who got there first (us). He refused and calmly drove on, letting Little Miss Zippy snag about the ONLY spot left. I wouldn’t have allowed that, but he is generally a lot calmer than I am, and took it all in stride. Lo, and behold, we came upon a truck just pulling out of a very choice stall right near the entrance. Richly rewarded, my son was, for being the nice guy. And I took that as a little reminder to be nice (I do need to be reminded now and then), especially when shopping on Christmas Adam, when all shoppers seem to get ultra-focused tunnel vision.
Glad I took Tim along to get these last minute gifts, because they are GOOD ones.. I love to give gifts.. even if I don’t enjoy shopping for them!
Ha, ha. "Christmas Adam". Hilarious.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it so exciting when you get a choice parking spot near the store? This happens to me almost every time.
I love giving gifts too...even more than recieving...unless someone actually looked on my list and got something from it.
ReplyDeleteThis year Keith and I didn't give gifts to each other, oh we did the stockings for each other, but no gift. We are hoping to put some money towards a new love seat or a lazy boy chair.
Hope everyone enjoyed thier equal gifts.
Christmas Adam is funny. Yay Tim for being the good guy.
ReplyDeleteThankls for the Christmas card, I got it today. Merry Christmas!
