Yes, resist the urge to hibernate! This is one of several pieces of advice given to people at this time of the year who have a difficult time dealing with time change and dark nights closing in on us. With the clocks being set back this coming weekend, it will be dark earlier, although for a little while at least, our mornings will be a bit brighter. Unless it’s overcast and raining, that is!
Studies have shown that this next week coming up, work productivity will drop by 50% as our bodies come to terms with darker days.
Today I woke up very lethargic. I was supposed to seize the day by meeting some friends at the church for a good hour long walking workout. I took one look out the window . “I just want to go back to bed”, I moaned. I hummed and hawed, but my wimpy side won. I made myself some coffee and hunkered down over my computer for a hopefully productive day getting some much needed work done. I’ve been somewhat successful so far, but as you can see, I’ve been sidetracked.
Do you, too, feel gloomier than usual today? Low motivation? Longing for Spring when Winter hasn’t even arrived yet? Wishing you could just crawl back into bed?
I probably should have just dressed for the weather and driven over to the church. It seems one of the best antidotes to low energy levels is regular exercise, and getting out in the fresh air for even a few minutes during daylight hours. Not that I didn’t know that already. I just don’t have the motivation to JUST DO IT today.
Maybe I will muster up the energy to go for a walk in the rain later today.
The good news is, December 21st isn’t that far away… then the days get longer again!! I’m thankful for that!
AHHH! Work productivity can't drop by 50%! I have midterms this week and papers due! Why is it that they put midterms and term papers on the darkest week of the year?
ReplyDeleteI've been so lethargic this week too and wish more than anything I could just crawl back into bed (again) and take one more nap before I have to start studying again.
Hey Karissa! It does seem wrong to have midterms when productivity is at its lowest--not fair! All the best with your studying and remember, RESIST the hibernating instinct!!
ReplyDeleteWell I for one sort of enjoy days like this...at least today I do, because I can stay home. Though it does make you sleepy.
ReplyDeleteGlad we made it out for our walk anyway.
Is that why I felt like crawling back into bed this morning? I thought it was just because I was still a little under the weather. Anyway, you did much better than I did today. I never made it out of my pjs! lol
ReplyDeleteOh, and how funny that you mentioned December 21st 'cuz I was just telling Gary the other day that I just have to hold out until then because I know the days will start getting longer again afterwards.
I walked from Riverside park to Pioneer and back this morning waiting for the library to open. It was COLD.
